Snowmobile Safety Education Class Was a Huge Success!

The Minocqua Forest Riders and Northern Hornshoe Trails Snowmobile Clubs (NHTSC) sponsored a snowmobile safety education class December 7 & 8.  It was held at the Area 31 facility in Minocqua and was attended by fifteen youth and two adults.  The class was hosted by DNR Warden Sam Eagan (Oneida Co).  Class training was led by MFR Instructors Keith and Debbie Checolinski along with Matt Lindborg (Apprentice Instructor, NHTSC).

The purpose of the class is to reduce the potential for snowmobile related incidents, injuries and fatalities; to reduce the potential for conflict between snowmobilers, landowners and other resource users; and to promote safe, responsible and ethical use of the environment and our resources.

All students passed the class and will receive a snowmobile safety certificate from the DNR.   This class and certificate are required for anyone born after Jan 1, 1985 to operate a snowmobile in Wisconsin.

MFR club members Dan Sikora and Scott Rosen drove a groomer to Area 31 for the students to view and Chayce Walker (Area 31) supplied a snowmobile for demonstration purposes.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Area 31 for providing a location for this class and to everyone who volunteered in helping to make this snowmobile safety education class a success. We look forward to sponsoring another safety class in the Fall of 2025.
