Trail Report – 02/15/2023

23 – 02_16

February 15, 2023

Curt Christensen, President

Thanks to Mother Nature’s crabbiness and the rain she brought to the NorthWoods Tuesday night, the condition of our trail system has changed drastically to Late Season Riding Conditions with a few patches of ground exposed where there was a shallow base.

Trails:
Our groomer operators were out today assessing the damage and our trails have been downgraded to Fair Condition at best.

Trail Issues:

•    On Corridor 12 from Willow Road east on the trail for 4 miles, be aware of trucks using Flowage Road to access a logging site. Slow down and ride with caution!

•    There’s logging activity on Trail 5 between TIN-513 and TIN-515. We haven’t been able to inspect this area yet, but it’s possible that there is little to no snow on this section of trail. You may want to consider an alternate route.

•   Trail 5A is PERMANENTLY closed between TIN-651 (the intersection of Trail 5 & Trail 5A) and TIN-653 (the intersection of Trail 5A & Price County Road). Follow the detour.

Lake Trails:
The lakes are very icy with little snow, replaced by areas of slush and standing water.

Grooming Operations:
Grooming has been suspended since this past Saturday evening. Trails will be groomed on an as needed basis until we’re blessed with a significant snowfall.

Weekend Forecast (as predicted by AccuWeather):
Friday:        A high temperature of 23 degrees and a low temperature of 19 degrees. Expect SW winds of 9 mph, gusting to 17 mph under mostly cloudy skies.
Saturday:    A high temperature of 36 degrees and a low temperature of 20 degrees. Expect WSW winds of 8 mph under partly to mostly cloudy skies.
Sunday:      A high temperature of 36 degrees and a low temperature of 17 degrees. Expect variable winds, mainly from the West, at 4 to 10 mph. Mostly cloudy skies will prevail with a possibility of a light dusting of snow during the evening hours.
